This is SO important! Truly Artist's Dates taught me this lesson but it is way to easy to forget. Time flies in the mundane! What a concept that is totally TRUE.

Thanks for reading!! This winter FLEW. It can be hard to remember to add into novelty when we're so preoccupied with work, seeing friends, writing, etc etc etc. But now that spring has fully sprung in Munich, it feels much easier to go out and about and have memorable experiences. Cheers to more Artist Dates this summer!

This really resonated with me, and I sent it to my husband and it really resonated with him too. We’ve faced a bit of an impasse over traveling in the past few years, since he wants to travel the world and I don’t, but I think we could both get the benefits that travel brings by seeking novelty right here at home.

We actually did one of your “shake the snow globe” activities yesterday: we went to a concert together (if anyone is curious, the bands were Autumn Kings and Cyan Kicks, if you are into electro-pop-rock I highly recommend them!). I also had the idea yesterday of taking a sign language class, but the sessions at the VHS for beginners just started earlier this month so I’d have to wait until July for the next session to start. Maybe I’ll still be interested by July and will actually do it, we’ll see ;)

Ahh, SO happy to hear this resonated with both you and your husband! It’s so easy to fall into the routine of everyday life and not even realize it, right? LOVE that you went to a concert, they’re the best 😍 if you have any other ideas of how to “shake up the snow globe,” I’m all ears!

I do love traveling (and am still new enough to living in Europe that I’ve been doing a LOT of it) but my default is to be a homebody. My husband LOVES traveling—it were up to him, we’d be gone every weekend! So how we balance that is he does tons of day trips and I accompany him probably half the time. It feels more manageable to me and there’s lots of fun places in Germany/Austria that are possible for a day trip and feel more special than just hanging around Munich on a free day!

Also, how lucky are we to have the VHS?!?!?! I hope July-Danielle will still inspired to take sign-language classes 🤞

I might be able to get on board with some day trips, and there are plenty of places nearby that I still haven’t been to yet. I did manage to plan a hiking day trip on New Year’s Day this year (I felt very pleased with myself 😆).

In general I really want to fully explore Munich, though. It’s easy to fall into complacency about the place you live and put off actually exploring it. (I know I did that when I lived in Sevilla.) Museums are a particular interest at the moment, I’d like to explore more of those since Munich has so many.

And I really hope July me is still inspired to take sign language! :)

(1) How did I not know you lived in Sevilla?! That's so cool!

(2) Gosh, Munich has so many wonderful museums, I think that's a great idea! I also would DEFINITELY recommend the alphabet challenge to help you explore Munich! While I am using it for general inspiration (anything goes), you could also adapt it for museums, or new restaurants, or new neighborhoods, etc. I find it most helpful on days when I have no idea what to do. "What letter would be next... oh, H! Okay, what starts with H..." :)

(3) Congrats on planning that New Year's Day hike! Hikes are especially daunting to me since I can't read a map to save my life and I'm directionally challenged. I'm always convinced I'll end up in the middle of no where LOL

I guess Sevilla hasn’t come up! I studied abroad there for a year my junior year of college :)

I like the idea of the alphabet challenge, when I read one of your posts about it I was intrigued. Maybe I’ll do that this summer when I want to be out and about all the time.

For the hike I just googled “hikes near Munich” or something like that and chose one where there were exact directions to the parking lot and the trail was clearly marked 😅

Somehow I fear even that would be too difficult for me 🤣🤣🤣

"The key to slowing down life, to being more present, is novelty." A lot of wisdom here, Paige. True what you say, that entire years can fade from memory if they're too "samey".

"Samey" is the PERFECT word for it! I'm glad this resonated with you, Wendy. Do you have any fun ways you "shake up the snow globe" in your life? :)

Family is always evolving, so there are constant surprises there. Being a member of a choir brings fun opportunities. And I’m trying to remember to actually take holidays. I travelled a lot when I was younger but have turned into a homebody. (But no more Scuba diving - I know my limits!)

Ah, it's all too easy to turn into a homebody, especially as writers -- I also am fighting that urge! We did a lot more day trips when we first moved but then I started to spend more days at home while my husband does solo trips outside the city. So this post acts as a necessary reminder for me too :)
